“Captain Phillips” to open TOKYO FEST

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) announced that “Captain Phillips” directed by Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass has been selected as festival opener. “Captain Phillips” stars two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama (WATCH trailer)

“The Kiyosu Conference,” directed by Koki Mitani, will close this year’s edition, which marks the festival’s 26th year in existence. “The Kiyosu Conference,” a historical epic, is Mitani’s sixth feature film based on the namesake novel which was penned by the director himself.
