Benicio Del Toro attached to Desplechin movie

It'll be his first time appearing in a French production

Actor Benicio Del Toro has been attached to appear in Jimmy Picard, an upcoming film by French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale). Jimmy Picard is the adaptation of “Reality and Dream: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian” by the anthropologist George Devereux. Picard, played by Del Toro, is an Indian from the Blackfoot tribe who suffers from neuroses and alcoholism after fighting in World War II. After settling in Kansas, he meets Devereux who will help him through his travails, and a friendship between the two men followed.

Georges Devereux will be played by Mathieu Amalric (Cosmopolis); Gina McKee (Bride and Notting Hill) has also been attached to the project.

This is the first time that Del Toro, an American-Puerto Rican actor, appears in a French production.

Principal photography begins today in Michigan. The film is slated for a 2013 release.
