Acting ain’t always a walk in the park. Thirty two year-old actor Jake Gyllenhaal, nominated for an Oscar in 2006 for his role in “Brokeback Mountain” recently needed “many” stitches after an accident while on a shoot for “Nightcrawler” (directed by Dan Gilroy) according to his publicist Mara Buxbaum.

“While Jake was shooting a very intense scene, his character was supposed to throw a punch into a mirror. Unfortunately, the mirror did not break like it was supposed to and Jake badly cut his hand,” Buxbaum added.

“He got several stitches in the E.R. and left the hospital two hours later. He is already back on set,” she said.

Jake Gyllenhaal lost twenty pounds for the role.

In “Nightcrawler” Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role of a freelance journalist who investigates crime in the middle of Los Angeles. The actor had appeared rather emaciated at recent red-carpet events, including the Hollywood Film Awards.
