(BY ALI NADERZAD) Tonight the Fatih Akin-led jury announced the Un Certain Regard prizes: the Hope Award went to Jean-Stephane Sauvaire‘s Johnny Mad Dog, the Knockout Award went to Tyson (James Toback), the Coup de Coeur Prize went to Wolke 9, the Jury Prize went to Kyoshi Kurosawa for Tokyo Sonata and the the night’s top prize went to Tulpan, a Kazak film by filmmaker Sergey Dvortsevoy. A screening of Tulpan followed the award ceremony. Akin confided in feeling discomfort at having to assume the role of president of the UCR jury, which is understandable given the great films in this selection. Their handing down the top prize to the Kazakh film Tulpan was a unanimous decision. This choice was unexpected given the breadth of the films presented this year and the quality of the films (pictured: the eight persons at left are the cast, and seventh from the left is the director from the awarded film Tulpan)
