His soaring film scores embedded the images in our heart and memory

Marvin Hamlisch, to whom we owe the soundtrack for "A Chorus Line" and that of movies like "The Way We Were" and "The Sting," died at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "He passed away on Monday in Los Angeles," confirmed his spokesman, Ray Costa. The causes of death were not specified, but the composer had been hospitalized "last week" in Burbank.
