D minus One for the Oscars – are you ready?

I am absolutely thrilled to announce to everyone that the 2012 Oscars will be taking place tomorrow—you heard it here first! Oh, wait—you knew already?

Tomorrow, the last Sunday in February, is a big day. The triumphant walk up to the dais, the speeches, and a few people going home disappointed.

All I really care to know about tomorrow’s ceremony is whether that funny little dog from The Artist will be in attendance. Wouldn’t that be fun? The rest is, as they say in France, a fait accompli. The Artist makes a killing taking the top four statuettes—at least that’s my prediction. Wanna bet on it? You can reach me by phone at (888) GA-HELPS to wager on this.

Even though I believe The Artist will be the dominant winner tomorrow night, I do also wonder what will happen to films like The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life and War Horse (all of which are in the Best Picture category). Woody Allen going up against Steven Spielberg, that’s a competition that’s thrilling and it could be a close race. Tree of Life could also still garner an award–it isn’t every day that Terrence Malick graces us with a picture after all.

Here’s the full list of the awards; I would like you to ponder it carefully, check off what you’ve seen and what you haven’t (and if you haven’t seen five of these movies you should go out to the movie theatre more often, and buy some pop-corn while you’re at it), and then get a good night’s sleep. The ceremony will be long and you need to be in tip-top shape. Thoughts and comments tomorrow after the ceremony.
