STRAIGHT TALK! WITH KEVIN BOWEN

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian [PG, but should be PG-13]Grade: D The second film installment of C.S. Lewis’ Christian allegory The Chronicles of Narnia commits a few deadly sins, gluttony being the foremost among them. A sequel always risks the “bigger, better” approach that spares no dime and no bad idea in the effort to top the original. Often in its blindness, the money blanket ... more >

DAY 3 – CANNES 2008 – VICKI CRISTINA BARCELONA

(BY ALI NADERZAD) The film everyone wanted to see today Friday was le nouveau Woody Allen. Journalists and cinephiles lined up patiently for a seat inside the Debussy and later Bazin theatres. Waltz with Bashir

Ari Folman's masterpiece
[Animated]
Directed by Ari Folman

Animated films are an art form that could be credited as far superior to anything else, especially with today's available craftsmanship and technology. When done well the storytelling can attain such heights that it can completely overwhelm traditional cinema. But the reason that such works are a rarity is because a good, original and tension-driven animated picture is hard to create. In "Waltz ... more >
